8714 Soul Portraits to you!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It helps me paint when most of my consciousness is elsewhere, listening.
So this is what I heard, or read today, December 17, 2015. I heard Japanese scientists say Hai! (yes) inanimate objects are able to think. Really?
Ok. A US professor declares in a popular TED video all matter possesses a consciousness. I might listen to this video someday to understand.
Surprisingly, I was not terribly surprised. Now that I think about it I used to wonder, as a child, if rocks could remember things.
I heard long ago of a Naïve American tradition that a rock would know when moved from it’s resting place. Hmmm.
The Jewish sages discuss the soul-like sparks given to all living and non-living creations. Interesting, I’m getting this. Today, Mr. Plato, our Greek philosopher friend, is in the house – let’s hear it for Mr. Plato – saying something similar. Really, where do these ideas come from. Good for them.
I do know the world is vastly more wonderful than we allow ourselves to believe.
I picked up a rock and I brought it to my son a couple of days ago (before reading or hearing any of this). It seemed to want me to pick it up. He loves having rocks. Then I forgot to give it to him. I’ll go find it now… and then paint.
I’m looking at six paintings. I wonder what they think of me. More importantly, what do they think of us.
Daniel
